ALBANIA: An agreement on recognition of social security contributions with Italy is published

Italian government published an agreement on recognition of social security contributions with Albania. The agreement guarantees pension rights of Albanians in Italy and Italians in Albania, from which about half a million Albanians and 4 thousand Italians benefit, shqiptarja.com writes.

Albania will provide services to Italians and vice versa, at no extra cost. The subject of this agreement are the benefits from the compulsory social security system, which include old-age pension, disability and family pension, sickness and maternity leave benefits, as well as unemployment insurance.

It is noted that a fund of EUR 12 million was approved for 2025; EUR 13.6 million for 2026; EUR 13.1 million for 2027; EUR 15.1 million for 2028; EUR 17 million for 2029; EUR 19.3 million for 2030; EUR 21.3 million for 2031; EUR 23.4 million per year for all subsequent years starting from 2032.

Since 2005, Albania has signed a series of agreements in the field of social security, including Turkey, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Romania, Kosovo, the Swiss Confederation and Croatia.

The agreements with Montenegro and Bulgaria are also expected to enter into force. Meanwhile, agreements with Poland and Serbia are in the process and countries such as Slovenia, Spain, Denmark, Moldova and the United Arab Emirates have expressed their agreement to start negotiations. The government is at an advanced stage of reaching an agreement to begin negotiations with France.

The technical debate with Greece continues, as it is a long and difficult process. Negotiations with Latvia begin in April. Negotiations are also underway with Slovenia and Moldova. An agreement has been reached with Israel, and the agendas are being coordinated, bringing the number to around 27-28 agreements, the source added.
