The first phase of implementing the universal health insurance system in Armenia will begin in 2026, with the annual health insurance package set at ADM 129,600 (~EUR 288), according to Armenian Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, ArmInfo writes.

The minister noted that this amount was determined based on the country's economic development and resources. She also noted that the package included areas where, according to statistics, the highest number of illnesses and fatalities are recorded.

According to Anahit Avanesyan, starting in 2026, the following groups of citizens will be eligible for 100% state subsidized health insurance: children under 18, senior citizens aged 65 and over, citizens aged 18-65 with disabilities, and socially vulnerable individuals with a score of 28 or more.

In total, 1.6 million people will join the universal health insurance system in 2026. The minister added that only Armenian citizens who are residents will be able to take advantage of the insurance package.
