AZERBAIJAN: nationwide introduction of compulsory health insurance postponed to 2020

Nationwide introduction of compulsory health insurance in Azerbaijan was postponed from 2019 to 2020, reports the Analytical and Information agency FINEKO and ABC.AZ.

As the Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan, Samir SHARIFOV, announced, the planned 2019 final preparation work and full introduction of compulsory health insurance (CHI) will be done in 2020, whereas at present, CHI is being used only in some certain districts and cities in the form of a pilot project. According to SHARIFOV, AZN 224 million (~EUR 113 million) will be allocated in the 2019 budget for the introduction of CHI. An international consulting company, McKinsey & Company, was involved in the development of the phased transition to CHI throughout the country.
