Alper TAN, TSB: Right now we don't know if direct compensation will work or not. We will see the results

"If the client has Casco insurance, his behavior will not change after implementing direct settlement. They will continue to come to their own Casco insurers. The only change will be to insured persons who do not have Casco policies", Alper TAN, Director, TSB - Insurance Association of Turkey, pointed out during IIF 2016 - "Motor Insurance - The Road Towards Profitability".

"Luckily we have an insurance information center. All the details about policies and claims will be there. The insured should have a right to approach each insurance company. But there is a possibility of fraud if such a clearing house does not exist to centralize information about a specific event", Alper TAN added.

"In Turkey we are not planning a compulsory system. Changing the legislation is a difficult issue. And right now we don't know if direct compensation will work or not. We will see the results. We are planning to start as a voluntary system and we are asking the insurance companies' opinion. We believe that at least 70% of the market should participate, otherwise we will not implement it", he explained.

"We expect increased customer satisfaction. Now, the only focus will be about decreasing the cost of the claim. It will become about customer satisfaction."

"In a fixed cost per file, it will create taxation issues. When you receive more than you pay, as an insurer, that surplus will be taxed", concluded Alper TAN.
