BULGARIA: at the end of 2022, the assets of Bulgarian insurers went down by 4.8%

By the end of December 2022, the assets managed by Bulgarian insurance companies amounted to about BGN 9.64 billion (EUR 4.9 billion), which represents a decrease of 4.8% y-o-y, SeeNews wrote with reference to the Central Bank.

The assets of non-life companies went down by 0.4% to roughly BGN 6.98 billion in 2022, while the assets managed by life insurers dropped by 14.5% to BGN 2.66 billion.

The assets of non-life insurance companies accounted for 72.4% of the sector's total, growing from 69.3% at the end of 2021.

Securities other than shares made up 46.6% of all insurance companies' assets at the end of December (vs a share of 44.3% a year earlier).

The number of insurance companies active in Bulgaria decreased to 44 at the end of December from 49 in 2021.
