BULGARIA: non-life represents 70.7% of total insurance assets at the end of September

The assets managed by insurance companies operating in Bulgaria amounted to nearly BGN 11.3 billion (EUR 5.8 billion) at the end of September, growing by 8.8% y-o-y, SeeNews writes with reference to the central bank.

Compared to the end of June, assets managed by Bulgarian insurers went up 4.4% or BGN 479.2 million, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a quarterly insurance sector report.

The non-life assets rose by 5.2% y-o-y to about BGN 8 billion at the end of September. This represented a share of 70.7% of total insurance assets. At the same time, the life insurance assets of life insurance jumped by 18.8% to BGN 3.3 billion, making up 29.3% of overall assets.

Securities other than shares accounted for 47.5% of all insurance companies' assets as of end-September (vs 45.4% a year earlier). Shares and other equity took up 25.6% (vs 24.2% in the same period of 2023), whereas the share of receivables from insurance operations decreased to 7.5%.

There were 46 insurance companies active in Bulgaria as of end-September: 12 life insurers and 34 non-life insurance companies.
