Beirut explosion insurance claims reached USD 425 million

Insurance claims from the 4th August Beirut explosion reached USD 425 million, Caretaker Economy Minister Raoul Nehme said, as mentioned by Middle East Insurance Review.

According to the mentioned source, up to this date, 2,500 claims have already been filled, the ministry expecting the claims number to reach 10,000. The total economic losses are likely to exceed USD 15 billion, Middle East Insurance Review reports.

On 4 August 2020, in capital city of Lebanon, Beirut, a warehouse filled with flammable chemicals caught fire, causing a devastating explosion, which killed at least 137 people, injured about 5,000 and made as many as 300,000 people temporarily homeless, BBC reports.
