Despite the financial crisis, Bosnia and Hergovina's insurance market remained on the growth track followed in the previous period, increasing by 2.87% y-o-y. The 25 insurers resident in BiH made in 3Q2012 a total GWP amount of EUR 195.17 million, out of which 83.84% relates to non-life insurance. Non-life insurance recorded 2% growth rate, to EUR 163.63 million, while life insurance lines grew by 7.59%, up to EUR 31.53 million. Premiums in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) increased by 1.86%, compared to a 5.69% increase in the Republic of Srpska (RS).

In the structure of the total premium, the share of the 14 companies domiciled in FBiH amounted to 73.63% (EUR 142.30 million, as Insurance Supervisory Agency of FBiH - NADOS informed), while the 11 RS - based companies accounted for 26.37% (EUR 52.87 million, according to data published by Insurance Agency of RS - AZORS).

As all BiH companies, regardless in which of the country's administrative entity they are registered, are allowed to undertake risks from the entire federation, it is interesting to observe that FBiH resident companies collected in the territory of RS premiums amounting to EUR 10.60 million, 28.32% more than in January-September 2011. At the same time, the volume of premiums underwritten by RS insurers in the territory of FBiH was of EUR 4.77 million, or 18.70% more than in 3Q2011.

For the whole country, the strongest insurers were three FBiH-based companies: with a market share of 13.08%, SARAJEVO Osiguranje was the market leader, followed by BOSNA-SUNCE (8.90%) and EUROHERC (8.62%). Calculated for FBiH market, their respective market shares rose to 17.93%, 12.21% and 11.82%. RS market leaders were JAHORINA Osiguranje (member of VIG), with 22.35% of the market, DUNAV Osiguranje with an 13.25% market share, and DRINA (10.80%).
