CROATIA: The market as of February 2025: growth in premiums, decline in paid claims

In the first two month of the year Croatian insurance companies collected EUR 312.2 million in premiums, or 8.8% more y-o-y. Of this, EUR 48.2 million (15.4%) came from life insurance, which is 1.1% less y-o-y, and EUR 264.0 million (84.6%) came from non-life insurance, which is 10.8% more y-o-y, osiguranje.hr reports.

In the structure of non-life GWP the largest shares belong to MTPL (35.1%), Motor Hull (19.5%), fire and natural disasters (9.6%), and other property insurance (8.1%).

Total paid claims in the first two months of 2025 amounted to EUR 191.7 million, which is 12.9% less y-o-y. Of this amount, EUR 53.6 million (28.0%) were paid in life insurance, or 37.3% less y-o-y, and EUR 138.1 million (72.0%) were paid in non-life, which is 2.7% more than in the same period last year. In non-life insurance, the largest amounts were paid for MTPL (42.5%), Motor Hull (20.8%), health insurance (11.4%) and fire and natural disasters (7.7%).

In February 2025, 14 insurance companies operated on the market. In terms of GWP the leader is Croatia osiguranje with 26.84%, followed by the members of the Agram Group – Euroherc osiguranje with 12.70% and Adriatic osiguranje with 12.09%. Together with Agram Life osiguranje, this group accounts for 27.69% of the total GWP on the Croatian market. Allianz Hrvatska ranks 4th with 10.75% market share, followed by Generali osiguranje with 7.37%.

In the non-life insurance segment, the ranking remained the same: Croatia osiguranje – 29.85%, Euroherc osiguranje – 15.02%, Adriatic osiguranje – 14.29%, Allianz – 10.24%, Generali osiguranje – 6.58%. While in life insurance, the leader is Agram Life with 14.94% market share, and the top five also include Allianz Hrvatska – 13.50%, Wiener osiguranje VIG – 13.06%, Grawe osiguranje – 11.83%, Generali osiguranje – 11.68%, the source added.
