The devastating fires that have hit the mountainous Limassol region have caused huge damage to hundreds of homes and properties.

According to the latest figures from the Cyprus Insurance Association (SAEK), insurance claims submitted so far amount to EUR 20 million, and the final damage amount is expected to be significantly higher, cyprusinsurancenews.com writes.

According to the General Manager of SAEK, Mr. Andreas Athanasiadis, it is estimated that approximately 150 claims will be submitted.

A census by the Limassol District Administration shows that the fire caused damage to 440 houses in total, of which 211 were destroyed. In addition, 81 warehouses, 19 business premises and 101 vehicles were destroyed, the source added.
