Crop insurance seminar in Torun, Poland

Between June 27th and 29th, 2016, Polish Reinsurance Company (POLISH Re) together with CONCORDIA Insurance organized an underwriting and claims handling seminar dedicated to crop insurance, which took place in Torun, the city in the northern part of Poland. The seminar gathered more than 50 people, representatives of 10 insurance markets, such as: China, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and Poland.

The topics discussed during the seminar focused on the following areas:
  • drone technology applied in risk assessment and loss adjustment;
  • domestic and UE experience and legislation influencing crop insurance;
  • special insurance programs dedicated to the particular groups of growers and key elements of crop portfolio modeling.
Among the lecturers there were experts of the agricultural insurance area and scientists, not only from Poland but also from Canada and Ukraine. Undoubtedly, one of the most interesting parts constituted the practical show of the loss adjustment in the fields.

Janusz PAVEL from Vereignite Hagel and Bernard MYCIELSKI from Concordia presented the use of drones in the process of risk assessment and loss adjustment. Furthermore, the guests had an opportunity to see a Polish farm with the modern agricultural equipment and machinery. Concordia also presented the practical activities of the loss adjuster on different types of crops, such as rapeseed, wheat or corn.

This seminar shows an excellent example of the thorough technical cooperation between the insurer and reinsurer, which is not only limited to the typical business relations, such as ceding and accepting risk.

Both companies are co-organizing AIAG Congress (AIAG - International Association of Agricultural Production Insurers) at the beginning of October 2017 in Warsaw, where all people from the industry interested in agricultural insurance are kindly invited.
