Under the motto "Disrupt.Life Insurance!", start-ups, people interested in founding a business, and students had the opportunity to engage with one of the main sectors of the insurance industry during the one day event. The winning team now has the chance to develop its "CashBackLife" concept within the framework of a three-month accelerator programme.
The 50 or so participants in Disrupt.me!® day applied their ideas to those areas where they believe established insurers face challenges. "The focus was on changing customer needs and the expectations of Generations Y and Z - the digital natives," says Michael Rohde, a member of Deutsche Ruck's Board of Management with responsibility for life reinsurance. Participants competed in teams to develop their disruptive concepts. They received help from ECODYNAMICS expert Hamidreza Hosseini and specialists from Protostart, who design and support constructive, crowd-based methods and processes with STARTPLATZ.
The winning team, consisting of Dietmar Gerke, Christian Katzmarczyk, Christoph Krahforst, Sonja Lemmer, Jason Lindecker, Markus Stiegl and Christoph Winkelhage, impressed the jury with their idea of linking products to existing reward programmes. "CashBackLife" would allow customers to use collected reward points to reduce their monthly insurance premiums. "The winning team showed ways of making premium payment more flexible. We were particularly impressed by the professional presentation of a goal-oriented customer journey, which is more important for insurers today than ever before," said Jamil Meier, Deutsche Ruck representative and member of the jury, praising the concept.
Second place went to the idea of a "Selfie-Ident" process - a quicker and much cheaper way of identifying customers in life insurance compared to existing methods. On the day itself, the team impressed the jury by adding a further element to the existing process, namely risk assessment using biometric products. Third place went to "LifeStyleSchutz", a system whereby premiums for occupational disability insurance are individually recalculated every year, based on the customer's eating habits or sporting activities.
The winning team now has the chance to develop its ideas further as part of a three-month accelerator programme at STARTPLATZ with mentoring from Deutsche Ruck. ECODYNAMICS and Protostart will offer free advice and workshops for the winning teams.
