Dr. Werner ZEDELIUS is the new head of the ALLIANZ CEE business

werner_zedelius1Starting September 1st, the CEE insurance business of the ALLIANZ Group will be managed by Dr. Werner ZEDELIUS, who will take over this assignment from Manuel BAUER. The change is part of a larger reorganization action meant to reduce the German insurer's Management Board from 10 members to 9.

Manuel BAUER (60), member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE responsible for "Insurance Growth Markets", including the CEE, is resigning by mutual agreement with effect from August 31, following the ALLIANZ SE Supervisory Board decision to reduce the size of the Board of Management of the company to nine members in total. His mandate was originally due to expire at the end of 2015.

As of September 1, 2015, his area of responsibility will be split up among the following members of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, in addition to their current duties:
  • Middle East, North Africa and India - Dott. Sergio BALBINOT (56)
  • Australia - Dr. Axel THEIS (57)
  • Central and Eastern Europe - Dr. Werner ZEDELIUS (57) 
  • Asia - Dr. Maximilian ZIMMERER (57).
At the same time, Oliver BATE (50), CEO of Allianz SE, will assume responsibility for the group-wide HR function.

Mr. ZEDELIUS's career in ALLIANZ started in 1987 and has gone through various management positions, from Head of Chairman's Office, Allianz AG to the position of Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, responsible for Insurance German Speaking Countries, Human Resources (Director responsible for Work and Social Welfare), Allianz Banking. He has a General qualification in banking and a doctorate in law.
