According to the Association of Estonian Insurance Companies (EKsL), last year insurers paid for 29,000 glass damages through voluntary vehicle insurance, the total loss of which was EUR 17 million.

The major amount of glass damage was reported from March to May with over 3,000 MoD cases paid per month.

In 2023, glass damage accounted for 37% of all Motor Hull cases. "There is a lot of glass damage in the spring, 100 glass damages per day are compensated through Motor Hull", said Toomas Pajo, Head of the Loss Settlement Department of the Traffic Insurance Fund.

According to Pajo, only a tenth of car glasses are repaired in Estonia, most glasses are replaced with new ones. "If nearly three grams of garbage is generated from glass repair, then more than 14 kilograms is generated during replacement. Just as we sort garbage to protect the environment, we could also repair more car glasses”, he added.
