"If before, people could take a snow vehicle from the garage and start the ride, now they need road insurance. Since December of last year, this insurance compensates for damage to victims of accidents in the countryside and in the forest as well, not only in road traffic", commented Lauri Potsepp, board member of the Estonian Traffic Fund (LKF).
Snow vehicles and all-terrain vehicles must be registered in the traffic register. As of January 10, 3,162 snow vehicles and 1,403 other off-road vehicles have been registered. Road insurance contracts were signed for only 412 snow vehicles and 297 other off-road vehicles.
"Unfortunately, accidents happen with snow vehicles and other off-road vehicles, where a person is injured or killed. Road insurance compensates for personal injury, including, for example, medical expenses and lost income", Lauri Potsepp added.
