ESTONIA: One-fifth of drivers already report their traffic accidents in digital form

20 June 2022 —
During the first month, the new digital traffic accident report of the Estonian Traffic Insurance Fund (LKF) was used by almost 1,000 drivers involved in accidents and 600 traffic insurance events were processed through it. The application works on the website avarii.lkf.ee in Estonian, Russian and English, the Fund said in its statement.

According to Taavi KIIBUS, LKF's head of digital services development, 15-20% of the drivers involved in traffic accidents use the application every day. "The application launched at the end of April is working well as the Estonian people are used to using web applications and the police directs drivers to report accidents on their smartphones. We have made it so easy and convenient to register a traffic insurance event at the scene that a paper traffic accident notification could disappear over time", KIIBUS said.

"First of all, the application is intended for reporting an accident at the scene with a smartphone, and not later, at home on a computer, and this way all necessary information will be noted so the accident is processed correctly. It is worth noting that the application only works in Estonia, accidents that occur abroad cannot be reported", explained LKF's head of digital services development.
