ESTONIA: The employer's health insurance has doubled in a year

11 October 2021 —
According to the Association of Estonian Insurance Companies, the employer's health insurance has more than doubled in a year. This year, 510 employers have purchased voluntary health insurance, insuring a total of 20,400 employees. In the middle of last year, only 230 employers insured a total of 7,600 employees.

Total GWP amount was EUR 1.7 million in the first half of 2020, and this year it has increased to EUR 4.2 million. According to Andres PIIRSALU, a member of the board of the Association of Insurance Companies, it is expected that employer's health insurance will become even more popular. "This is a convenient and useful service for both the employer and the employee. Employees are happy to have quick access to specialists, while employers are satisfied with the tax benefit that ensures healthy and motivated employees", said PIIRSALU.

The tax benefit, introduced three years ago, allows an employer to purchase health insurance without a special tax of up to 100 euros per quarter per employee. Last year the employer's health insurance was offered by BTA, ERGO, If and Seesam KINDLUSTUS, and this year PZU was added.

According to Kristel SOLONI, Product Manager of PZU Health Insurance, health insurance is an extremely flexible product, because companies can choose the most suitable package for themselves and their staff. "It only contains one mandatory element - outpatient treatment. In addition, you can choose between reimbursement for prescription drugs, hospital, rehabilitation and dental treatment, occupational health check-ups, preventive examinations, vaccination and reimbursement of glasses, and daily allowance during incapacity for work", explained SOLONI.

According to Mihhail PROKOPJEVI, BTA's personal insurance product manager, health insurance increases the quality of work and life of employees. "Prevention or treatment of diseases before a severe stage has a positive effect on both mood and ability of employees to work. Employers can create the most suitable solution for their employees from a wide range of services and easily monitor balances of their limits through BTA's mobile app", said PROKOPJEVI.
