According to Lauri Potsepa, a member of the board of the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), there are very few insurance disputes compared to the total number of insurance cases. “At the same time, uncertainty of consumers has increased in recent years, and the same trend is also seen in the increase of conciliation statements, especially regarding home insurance. Disputes often arise because people's expectations for compensation are higher than what was agreed upon in insurance contracts”, explained Lauri Potsepa.
In 2024, 60% of insurance disputes ended with an agreement through mediators. The average disputed amount in an insurance mediation was EUR 11,750 (the smallest was EUR 46, and the largest was EUR 384,564), the Association added.
