GEORGIA: introduction of compulsory insurance for tourists postponed

The introduction of compulsory health and accident insurance for tourists coming to Georgia is planned to be postponed until January 1, 2026. A draft suspending application of this clause of the law until the end of 2025 has been submitted to parliament, Report writes.

At the end of last year, the Georgian Parliament approved the updated Law on Tourism in the third reading. One of the clauses stated that from June 1, 2024, compulsory insurance to be introduced for all foreigners visiting Georgia.

However, it was not possible to reach consensus on several provisions. According to the initiators of the law, in the process of preparing the decision “On approval of the rules and conditions of compulsory health and accident insurance for tourists coming to Georgia,” a few problems were revealed, which makes it advisable not to apply this requirement until January 1, 2026.
