GROUPAMA net profit down by 12% in 2016

French insurer GROUPAMA reported a EUR 46 million decrease in its 2016 net profit, to EUR 322 million (EUR 368 million in 2015), a EUR 10 million decrease in its economic operating income (to EUR 153 million), a non-life combined ratio of 100.3% (vs. 99.2% as at 31 December 2015) and stable premium income of EUR 13.57 billion (+0.1% y-o-y).

In property and casualty insurance, the Group posted premium income growth of +0.7% to EUR 7.16 billion, while the life and health segment totaled EUR 6.28 billion (-0.6% y-o-y). At the same time, financial an banking businesses premium income was up by 5.7% y-o-y to EUR 133 million.

Analyzing the territorial distribution of premium income, France generated 80% of the group's overall activity which amounted to EUR 10.8 billion (0.9% more y-o-y).

Outside France, the value of premium income totaled EUR 2.64 billion, down by 2.9% y-o-y. GROUPAMA's premium income volume increased in Romania (+15.9%), Turkey (+4.6%) and Hungary (+4.4%) while in Italy (GWP of EUR 1.45 billion) the value of premium income declined by 9%.
