Up to this moment insurers have already received claims files worth approx. EUR 90 million after the tornado that hit several villages in South Moravia a week ago for about 11,000 claims files. However, the total number of files may reach up to 25,000. Advance payment were made in several hundred cases, to ease homeowners' recovery. Insurers say the expected average payout will reach CZK 144,000.
Insurance companies declared a state of disaster as early as the night following the tornado, said announced CAP - the Czech Insurers Association. They set up a special crisis staffs, activated and strengthened mobile teams of liquidators and all employees who could help in this situation. The rules of accelerated liquidation come into play to help clients with catastrophic damages.
Besides damaged homes, a large number of vehicles may have been damaged, the insured losses being estimated to over EUR 9 million, with an average cost per claim of EUR 1,560.
For corporate clients, claims are expected to relate mainly to property insurance, with a possible total amount of EUR 39 million. Losses for crops and livestock may also add a EUR 5.5 million. Businesses hit by the disaster can apply also for special government aid.
Meanwhile the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade has begun accepting claims for compensation from business people under a special Tornado Assistance program, RPI reported.

The extreme weather event is part of a series of extreme weather events and a prolonged outbreak of severe convective storms caused considerable damage across Western and Central Europe after a heat wave just ended. According to Aon's Impact Forecasting unit, severe weather wreaked havoc in parts of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and elsewhere.
