KYRGYZSTAN: property insurance accounts for the largest share of GWP and paid claims in 7M2024

For the period from January to July 2024, GWP in Kyrgyzstan amounted to KGS 2381.3 million (~EUR 26.18 million), which is 51.3% more y-o-y, according to a report published the Service for regulation and supervision of the financial market.

Of the total GWP, voluntary insurance generated KGS 2009.1 million, including KGS 1234.1 million from property insurance, KGS 405.7 million from personal insurance, KGS 369.0 million from liability insurance.

Compulsory insurance amounted to KGS 372.2 million. The largest shares in the structure of compulsory insurance are occupied by employer's civil liability insurance for harm to life and health of employees (KGS 170.3 million) and MTPL (KGS 118.4 million).

The lion share in the total GWP is occupied by property insurance (51.43%), personal insurance accounted for 20.63%, compulsory insurance - 15%, liability insurance - 12.93%.

Premiums ceded for reinsurance by insurers of Kyrgyzstan as of August 1, 2024 amounted to KGS 550.4 million, which is 11% more y-o-y. The share of premiums ceded for reinsurance abroad is 79%.

During the period, insurers' paid claims reached KGS 396.7 million (~EUR 4.36 million), which is 10.9% more y-o-y. Paid claims in voluntary insurance amounted to KGS 362.5 million, of which KGS 277.9 million were paid for property insurance. Insurers paid out KGS 34.2 million for compulsory insurance, of which KGS 17.8 million were paid for MTPL. Property insurance also holds the lion share in paid claims (57%).

It is noted that as of August 1, 2024, 16 insurance (reinsurance) organizations operated in the insurance market of Kyrgyzstan, of which 10 have 100% Kyrgyz capital and 6 are organizations with the participation of non-residents.
