LATVIA: The most dangerous days for drivers - Mondays and Fridays

According to statistical data, Mondays and Fridays are the most dangerous days of the week for Latvian drivers.

The first day of the week is dangerous for road traffic, because accidents involving cars take place most often on this day. Ever since 2011, there has been a tendency in Latvia when Latvian drivers would cause accidents on Monday. An average of 18% of road accidents take place on Mondays, while 15% - on Fridays, according to BALTA insurance association's KASKO data.

Statistical data on Latvia's State Police show that road accidents with people being injured in them take place most often on Fridays. Last year, SP had registered a total of 591 accidents on Fridays and 487 accidents on Mondays. A total of 3 361 accidents were registered last year, and 3 389 accidents the year before.

This is confirmed by data of BALTA's sister company in Lithuania - Lietuvos Draudimas. This data shows that Fridays are the unluckiest days of the week for Lithuanians, as well as weekends. Accidents happen most often between 12:00 and 18:00. Last year's number of road accidents, compared to 2011, has increased by 5%. The number of accidents in Lithuania had increased specifically during spring months and June last year.

The greatest risk of drivers being robbed is noted on Tuesdays. Thefts and robberies are noted 20% more often on Tuesday than on any other day of the week, according to statistics.
