Insurers note that the volume of registered housing damages is growing every year. Lietuvos Draudimas, Lithuania's largest non-life insurance company, alone received 52 thousand house damage reports last year, which is 25% more than, for example, in 2022, delfi.lt writes.

According to data from the country's largest insurer, Lietuvos Draudimas, the total amount of housing damage payments increased by 36% or EUR 8 million in two years, and last year reached almost EUR 32 million. "On average, approximately 143 various housing damages were recorded per day in 2024 caused by natural disasters, fires, floods, property theft, broken glass and other events. The total amount of housing insurance benefits paid to residents daily was about EUR 87 thousand", says Artūras Juodeikis, Director of the Claims Department of Lietuvos Draudimas.

Concerned about the increasing frequency of natural disasters he noted that the number of natural disaster-related incidents has been increasing rapidly over the past three years. Last year, over 16,000 incidents were recorded, and in three years, the number of natural disaster-related incidents has almost doubled, which is a worrying trend. "Recent years have shown that the forces of nature are showing their increasing strength every year", commented Mr. Juodeikis.

The amount paid for damages caused by water has also increased significantly - last year it almost reached EUR 11 million, and has almost doubled in three years, according to data from Lietuvos Draudimas. At the same time fires cause the greatest losses according to Mr. Juodeikis. Even though fire damage is not as common as natural disasters or flooding, it is one of the most painful. "Although also growing, fire incidents are not particularly numerous in number. Last year, we recorded 1.2 thousand of them. However, fire damage is undoubtedly one of the largest and most painful for residents", noted Mr. Juodeikis.

According to the expert, as the number of claims increases, a responsible approach to protecting personal assets becomes increasingly important.
