Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) announced that Susan A. STONE has been appointed General Counsel of the Company's Risk and Insurance Services (RIS) segment, which includes MARSH and GUY CARPENTER. She succeeds James J. McNasby, who has served as General Counsel of MARSH since 2007 and as General Counsel of RIS since 2015. Susan STONE's new role is effective as of February 15, 2017 and will report to Peter ZAFFINO, Chairman of Risk and Insurance Services, and to Peter J. BESHAR, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MMC, and will be based in MMC's New York headquarters.

For the past 21 years, Susan STONE has been a partner at Sidley Austin, LLP, where she served as a member of the Executive Committee and co-head of the firm's insurance practice.

"Susan's significant insurance industry experience, strong management skills and track record of counseling Fortune 500 companies on complex legal issues make her ideally suited for this important leadership role," said Peter ZAFFINO, Chairman of Risk and Insurance Services.

Susan STONE graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and cum laude from Harvard Law School. Early in her career, she worked as a management consultant at Bain and as a federal prosecutor. Ranked as a Tier 1 lawyer in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, included in The Best Lawyers in America since 2008, and named in Benchmark Litigation's national ranking of "Top 250 Women in Litigation". Susan STONE has also served on the boards of The Auditorium Theatre, WTTW Public Television, The Joffrey Ballet, and The Chicago Children's Museum.

"I am delighted to welcome Susan to the firm," said Peter J. BESHAR, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MMC. "She is widely respected for her legal and business acumen and will be a terrific addition to our Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs department."
