MOLDOVA: 2012 health insurance policy likely to get by 210 lei more expensive

28 November 2011 —
The percentage of deductions from salaries in premiums for the mandatory health insurance policy in 2012 will remain unchanged at 7%, split equally between the employer and the employee; however for the unemployed the price of the policy will increase by 210 lei to 2,982 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.

The draft law containing these measures was approved by the Government on Friday and will be submitted to Parliament for consideration.

The bill keeps the 50% discount on policies bought in the first three months from the law's entry into effect. Also, owners of farmland may get 75% off the policy until the conclusion of the harvesting season.

The bill introduces a requirement for the uninsured to pay 20 lei for each time they see a doctor, except for cases when they suffer from "socially-caused illnesses with a major impact on public health". According to Health Minister Andrei Usatii, this payment would remove the existing inequality between the insured and uninsured in the health insurance system.

The income of the 2012 Mandatory Health Insurance Fund was set at 3.9 billion lei, up by 309 million lei or 8.4% on 2011. State subsidies to the Fund will be 2.1 billion lei.
