According to the information provided by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the combined net operating profit rate (ROC), calculated based on aggregate data for all classes of non-life insurance, in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 99.4%, increasing by 0.3 percentage points y-o-y and by 3.8 percentage points compared to the aggregate value for 2024 (95.6%).
In compulsory insurance, the combined gross operating profit rate for domestic MTPL amounted to 95%, 0.8 percentage points more compared to the average of the previous year, and for international MTPL insurance (Green Card) it was 100.2%, which means an increase of 6.9 percentage points compared to the average of the previous year.
As for the entire insurance market, the net result in 1Q2025 was positive, the recorded net profit reached MDL 37.5 million (~EUR 1.93 million), which is MDL 40.5 million or 52% less y-o-y. 6 insurance companies ended the first quarter with profit, while the other three recorded a net loss.
The return on equity (ROE) of insurance companies was 8%, which is 8.6 percentage points less than lats year. The return on assets (ROA) was 2.7%, which is 2.8 percentage points less than in 2024, the source added.
