POLAND: Bancassurance in a strong uptrend

According to data collected by the Polish Insurance Association (PIU), as at September 30, 2021, GWP through the banking channel reached PLN 5.21 billion, 26% more y-o-y (~EUR 1.12 billion*).

This result was at the same level as after 9 months of 2019, but clearly lower than, for example, after three quarters of 2017 (PLN 7.57 billion), Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa reports.

Life sector

The Chamber's report shows that 9M2021 GWP in life bancassurance amounted to PLN 3,254 million (+18%). However, GWP generated by the banking channel in Q3 2017 was PLN 6,319 million. After 9 months of 2021, the share of life bancassurance in the entire sector stood at 19.6% (in the years 2020-2017, respectively: 17.9%, 22.8%, 27.2% and 34.5%). The current "leader" - investment products, generated 46% of premiums.

Non-life sector

In turn, property bancassurance collected PLN 1,959 million in premiums (+43% y-o-y). After 9 months of this year, the share of non-life bancassurance in the sector's result (excluding motor insurance and inward reinsurance) was at the level of 5.7% (in the years 2020-2017, respectively: 4.4%, 5.1%, 4.6% and 5.5%). 76% of property and personal contributions in the banking channel were generated by individual contracts, while 24% by group contracts (vs 66% and 34% a year ago, respectively).

The data include results of 19 life companies covering about 95.5% of the life sector and 16 non-life companies accounting for 87.6% of the sales in non-life sector.
