Insurance companies, like PZU, Warta, Generali, ERGO, AXA, LINK4, UNIQA, TU Europa, Condordia, TUW "TUW" or Aviva, have increased the number of helpline personnel able to deal with incoming phone calls from victims; local insurers are also validating the claims based only on photos sent by the victims, without inspection from specialized insurance appraisers being necessary at all. Insurers said that in many cases the claims were settled in less than 24h after the damages were reported.
PZU Group is prepared to pay an advance sum of PLN 2,000 for each customer affected by the natural events and is running a special hotline of about 50 consultants dedicated to the flood victims. Aviva said they are receiving twice as many claims as usual, and to speed up the process of claims liquidation, many formalities have been eliminated, minor damages being settled after one simple phone call and photo evidence.
Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland (Malopolska) regions were the most affected by the recent weather events. Flood is one of the most common types of natural catastrophe that affects Poland. Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU) says that insurance companies were very well prepared to support the people affected by recent natural events.
Jan Grzegorz PRADZYNSKI, President of PIU, said:
"The (insurance) market placed great emphasis on organizing efficient and rapid liquidation of damages. Companies are maximally simplifying claims settlement procedures, managing to eliminate damages even within one day. Unfortunately, weather phenomena caused by the increasing climate risk will be seen more and more often. This is why cooperation between insurers, local governments, central authorities, institutions and public services is so important. Higher awareness and financial education have a great importance. For now, we are focusing on reaching the victims as fast as we can."
