POLAND: Insurers decide to pay dividends

8 September 2021 — Marina MAGNAVAL
The position of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority on the dividend policy of insurance and reinsurance companies, adopted in December last year, allowed them to share profit from the last two years with shareholders. Companies eagerly took advantage of this opportunity, Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa reports with reference to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, 24 insurers decided to pay. They will give to shareholders a total of nearly PLN 6.3 billion (~EUR 1.4 billion*), of which almost PLN 2.9 billion will be dividends from profits earned in previous years.

Jacek BARSZCZEWSKI, spokesman for the Commission, noted that this is in line with the position of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority on the dividend policy in 2021. Dziennik Gazeta Prawna emphasized that some companies, such as Aviva, Generali or MetLife, allocated their profits into equity as reserves, which they can share with shareholders in the future.
