POLAND: Share-related assets of insurers shrank by nearly PLN 10 billion in 2022

28 February 2023 —
According to the data of the Analizy.pl website, at the end of 2022, the value of assets accumulated in insurance capital amounted to PLN 36.99 billion (~EUR 7.87 billion), which is PLN 9.4 billion (20%) less y-o-y. The source noted that since its peak in 2017, share-related assets have already shrunk by more than a third, Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa reports.

The leader in terms of the size of accumulated assets was Allianz Zycie. However, its PLN 12.5 billion was mainly due to acquisition of Aviva, which used to be the number one so far. The value of the insurer's assets fell by PLN 2.1 billion, but it is still far ahead of its competitors. Nationale-Nederlanden (PLN 5 billion) ranks second, whose results have not yet included the assets of the acquired MetLife. The third place was taken by PZU Zycie with PLN 4.8 billion. Despite a decrease of nearly PLN 2.2 billion, Open Life (PLN 2.4 billion) ranked forth.

The website points out that over 73% of share-related assets are invested directly in shares and certificates of domestic funds and equity titles of foreign funds. At the end of the year, this amounted to PLN 24 billion invested in domestic funds and PLN 3 billion invested in foreign funds (a decrease of PLN 7 billion and PLN 1.5 billion y-o-y, respectively).
