RUSSIA: in 2019 over 22% of car owners got maximum MTPL discounts

6 February 2020 — Marina MAGNAVAL
In 2019 almost 90% of car owners (33.8 million people) got MTPL discounts (bonus-malus coefficient less than 1) and 48% of all car owners (18.3 million people) had discounts of 20% or more, according to Igor YURGENS, the president of the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI).

Total number of car owners having a bonus-malus coefficient less than 1 (for accident-free driving) increased by 5% y-o-y, and the maximum MTPL discount (50%) in 2019 was given to 22.8% of car owners, YURGENS noted.

"We see that the number of accident-free drivers increased in 2019. This is one of the results of insurers' active struggle with fraud. In future, we'll observe such an effect thanks to the tariff liberalization reform that began in 2019 and should continue in 2020. As a result, car owners will receive an additional incentive for accident-free driving, as this will further affect the insurance policy price", the president of RAMI explained.
