RUSSIA: the number of appeals to the financial ombudsman and complaints against insurers is decreasing

13 May 2020 — Marina MAGNAVAL
In April this year, the number of appeals to the financial ombudsman dropped by almost 28% compared with the results of March, which is primarily due to a decrease in activity under restrictive quarantine measures, the press service of the financial ombudsman reports.

Insurance disputes made a major part of appeals, 85% of them being related to MTPL insurance contracts. The second and third positions in this ranking were taken by Motor Hull and Life insurance.

It is also worth noting that during the first quarter of 2020, the total number of complaints against insurers significantly decreased as well, by 32.7% y-o-y, as the Bank of Russia report (Russian only) says.
