The pro-government tabloids Informer and Republika published a photo of Filipović from student protests that he attended in his private time, accusing him of "wanting to overthrow the state". The company itself was targeted through texts that unfoundedly claimed that Generali was losing market share.
The company was publicly supported by numerous organizations, including the Foreign Investors Council, the Serbian Association of Managers, the Chamber of Italian-Serbian Entrepreneurs, however, neither the Serbian Chamber of Commerce nor the Association of Insurers expressed solidarity.
Generali reached out to both organizations, seeking condemnation of the attacks that tarnished the company's reputation, but neither the UOS nor the PKS wanted to make a statement, thereby denying protection to their member. As a result, Generali decided to withdraw from all activities within both organizations. Generali will remain a member of both organizations as required by law, but Filipović will no longer participate in any functions.
In addition, Generali will send another employee to the Board of Directors instead of its director and will also withdraw all employees from the membership of the 15 expert committees of the Association of Insurers of Serbia. Generali will also cease participating in PKS activities and will no longer share any business data with the Chamber of Commerce.
