SLOVAKIA: GENERALI recorded more than 100,000 insurance claims in 2011
GENERALI Slovensko recorded more than 100,000 insurance claims for 2011, of which almost 40 % comprised damage in motor insurance. The total paid indemnity accounted for almost EUR 102 million, announced GENERALI PPF Holding.

In the area of motor insurance, GENERALI Slovensko recorded a slight decrease in reported damage for last year compared to 2010. The total indemnity paid for damage on vehicles amounted to more than EUR 44 million. "The most frequent damage included body, buffers, screens, head-lamps, door, etc. The most expensive damage in motor hull was the theft of a luxurious vehicle BMW X5 (around EUR 52,000). For MTPL the most expensive recorded damage was a frontal collision of a personal vehicle with a bus (around EUR 53,000)".

According to the company's officials, the year 2011 also brought some unusual damages, "such as an insurance claim when a wasp flew into the driver?s mouth and as a consequence, he jerked the steering wheel and damaged two other cars. With another insurance claim the client reported a stolen car. He stated that he did not find it in a place where he had parked it the night before. The investigation revealed that the client's wife found out about her husband?s affair and she wanted to punish him, so she re-parked the car two blocks away and she did not tell him anything. This is the explanation she gave to the police and she also stated that she would never do this again".

In 2011, the non-life segment was influenced by precipitation, hail storm and windstorm. These elements caused the most damage in agriculture: "the greatest damage in agriculture was the freezing of the bloomed fruit grove during the May frost (around EUR 400,000).

In the property segment, the most expensive damage was caused by fire. The company recorded a case when an unknown perpetrator intentionally set a holiday house on fire. The fire destroyed the building structure and the damage amounted to EUR 82,000".

In the area of business insurance, the highest level damage occurred with the fire of technological equipment of a drying oven which resulted in the discontinuation of operation. The damage on the equipment amounted to more than EUR 1.5 million and the client also had insurance of operation discontinuation with damage suffered which amounted to around EUR 300,000.

In life and accident insurance, the damage accounted for 30% of all reported insurance claims in the previous year. The most frequently recorded injuries involved work and out-of-work activities, holiday activities, sports and injuries caused as a result of car accidents.
