STATISTICS:  GREECE 1Q 2025: negative change in GWP driven by the life insurance segment

According to the Q1 2025 preliminary statistics published by HAIC - the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, at the end of March, the Greece insurance market totaled at EUR 1.37 billion, 2.2% down y-o-y.

According to presented figures, the Greek life insurance segment saw the strongest fall, by 11.3% y-o-y to EUR 612.3 million. Most of this drop in business came from the “Life insurance linked to investment funds” line, which saw 16.8% drop in premiums and lost 3 percentage points from its weight in the market portfolio. The non-life insurance subclasses expanded by almost 6.5% y-o-y to EUR 760.4 million.

The Q1 2025 market results published by HAIC include the figures for 47 insurers, of which 42 were active in non-life insurance and 14 in Life insurance.

Of the 47 insurance enterprises, 26 were established in Greece in the form of S.A. Insurance Company, 1 in the form of mutual insurance cooperative, 15 as branches of foreign insurance enterprises and 5 European insurance enterprises operating under the FOS status.
