The aggregate Q1 GWP reported by Hungarian insurers totaled HUF 568.96 billion (~EUR 1.41 billion), 24.22% more y-o-y, according to the Q1 statistics published by the Central Bank of Hungary (local currency). The life insurance business accounted for 40.7%, a significantly higher weight in the market portfolio as compared with Q1 2024 (+7 percentage points).
In terms of overall claims, total incurred claims (payments and change of reserves summed-up) increased by almost 11% y-o-y to HUF 216.66 billion. Life incurred claims totaled ~HUF 121.3 billion, while the same indicator in non-life totaled HUF 95.35 billion.
According to the Q1 statistics, at the end of March 2025 the aggregate market gross profit of Hungarian insurers increased by over 65% y-o-y, to HUF 29.6 billion the equivalent of EUR 73.65 million. The value of net profit increased similarly to HUF 27.18 billion (EUR 67.62 million).
At the same time, the technical result (life and non-life, summed-up) was up to HUF 29.29 billion (EUR 72.87 million) vs. HUF 22.35 billion a year before. Out of this total, HUF 6.95 billion was generated by the life insurance segment, the remaining HUF 22.34 billion being accounted for by non-life insurers.
