STATISTICS:  KAZAKHSTAN, FY2025: Life insurance shows strong growth

Kazakhstan's insurance sector grew by 15.75% at the end of 2025, reaching KZT 1.94 trillion (EUR 3.28 billion), according to data published by the National Bank. The market performance in euro was also positive, but only 6.90%.

The shares of life and non-life insurance in the market portfolio changed slightly: non-life insurance accounted for 57.82% of the total GWP, while life insurance 42.18%. At the same time, life insurance saw strong growth for the year, while some non-life insurance segments, such as accident, motor hull, and cargo insurance, recorded a decline.

Insurers' paid claims for 2025 totaled KZT 467.7 billion (EUR 790.46 million), which is 36.16% more y-o-y. Insurers paid out the most in motor insurance (motor hull and MTPL summed) – KZT 135.41 billion, and life insurance (KZT 102.36 billion).

According to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of Financial Market, in 2025, the assets of the sector increased by 25.1% to KZT 3.9 trillion, primarily due to a rise in income from insurance operations and investments in securities. As of January 1, 2026, securities accounted for the largest share of assets – 74.8% (KZT 2.9 trillion).

Insurance sector liabilities increased by 28.7% to KZT 2.8 trillion in 2025. Equity rose 16.7% to KZT 1.1 trillion. Net profit in the insurance market for 2025 reached KZT 245.6 billion.

The number of insurance contracts concluded in 2025 was 22.4 million units, a 2.4% decrease compared to 2024.

As of the end of 2025, the insurance sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by 25 insurance companies, 10 of which were life insurers. NOMAD LIFE led in the overall ranking (KZT 335.17 billion), while Halyk-Life dropped from first to second place, and EURASIA rounded out the top three.
