In the first three quarters of 2025, gross written premiums (GWP) in Albania's insurance market reached ALL 20.18 billion, marking a 10.37% increase y-o-y. In European currency, due to the appreciation of the Albanian Lek against Euro, the market growth was of 12.6%, to EUR 208.46 million.
The market remains oriented towards non-life insurance, which accounted for 91.69% of the total premium volume, while life insurance represented 8.27%, and reinsurance 0.033%. As far as the market segmentation by insurance type - compulsory and voluntary – is concerned, voluntary insurance premiums accounted for 38.19% and compulsory insurance premiums for 61.81% of the total market.
In the same period, gross paid claims totaled ALL 6.18 billion (EUR 63.85 million), which is a value fairly equal with the last year’s one, in local currency. Motor insurance claims reached ALL 4.7 billion (EUR 48.55 million), increasing by 28.68%.
Compulsory MTPL premiums rose by 12.96%, reaching approximately ALL 12.47 billion (EUR 128.84 million). The internal MTPL product saw an almost 14% increase in premiums and a 7.4% rise in contracts. The Green Card premiums grew by 11% with a 2.5% increase in contracts, while Border Insurance premiums declined by 1.6% with a 1.9% drop in contract numbers.
Voluntary insurance premiums amounted to ALL 7.7 billion (EUR 79.52 million), up by 6.4%. Non-life voluntary insurance premiums went down by 4.6%. Life insurance premiums grew by 13.5%, totaling ALL 1.67 billion (EUR 17.25 million) during this period.
