STATISTICS: CROATIAN insurers 3Q GWP up by 2.43% y-o-y

Croatian insurers posted aggregate GWP of HRK 6.72 billion (about EUR 881 million) in the first nine months of 2015, up 2.43% y-o-y, according to the preliminary statistics published on Croatian Insurance Bureau website. Non-life GWP decreased by 2.65% y-o-y to HRK 4.55 billion, while the life insurance segment totaled HRK 2.17 billion, or 15.04% more.

While the momentum recorded in the first half of the year by the life insurance segment appeased in a certain degree, the non-life lines saw, in most cases, an improved dynamic.

On the life segment, ALLIANZ Zagreb was the market leader (18.97% market share), followed by CROATIA Osiguranje (18.10%), and UNIQA Osiguranje (10.62%).

CROATIA Osiguranje led the non-life ranking (almost 33% of the market share), followed by EUROHERC Osiguranje - (13.29%) and ALLIANZ Zagreb (12%).

At the end of September 2015, 25 insurers were activating on the market.

STATISTICS: CROATIA timeline 2008 - 2017: the MTPL prices liberalization was the event with the highest impact on the market evolution

Between 2008 and 2017, the Croatian insurance market saw an 8% decrease in business, in GWP terms. From an absolute value of EUR 1.32 billion recorded in 2008, GWP at the overall market level gradually decreased year by year, until 2015, when the market started to grow again. The positive trend seen in 2016 and 2017 was not strong enough to bring the market at the pre-crisis level.
