In the first quarter of 2022, the insurance sector of Moldova grew by more than 24% y-o-y to MDL 485.23 million (EUR 23.80 million). Paid claims also recorded a fairly strong growth - by 17%, amounting to MDL 185 million (EUR 9.07 million), according to the data published by the National Financial Market Commission.

Life insurance grew by only 3.62%, while non-life insurance increased by 26%. All key non-life classes saw steady growth, most of all - property insurance, total GWP for which reached MDL 82.65 million.

Paid claims rose substantially across almost all major classes, except for accident insurance, where insurers paid out 76% less than in the same period a year earlier.

Of the 10 active insurers, the overall market ranking is headed by GRAWE CARAT ASIGURARI with MDL 77.45 million, followed by GENERAL ASIGURARI and ASTERRA GRUP with a small margin from each other.
