STATISTICS: Macedonian Q1 insurers' business expanded by 4% y-o-y

At the end of March 2021, the Macedonian insurance market totaled MKD 2.68 billion (EUR 43.6 million), up by 4% y-o-y, according to preliminary data provided by the local Insurance Supervision Agency.

GWP from non-life insurance increased by almost 5% y-o-y to MKD 2.27 billion (about 84.6% of total GWP) - of which MKD 995 million - MTPL, MKD 584 million - property and MKD 200 million - MoD, while the life insurance segment reported premiums of MKD 414.5 million, 0.5% less y-o-y, official figures show.


In terms of GWP, the largest life insurer in the country was the local unit of CROATIA osiguranje (with GWP of MKD 138 million, ~EUR 2.2 million, a 33.3% market share), followed by "Austrians" from GRAWE (26.8%), WINNERVIG (19%) and UNIQA (12.6%). EUROLINK led the non-life ranking (14.7%), ahead of TRIGLAV (12$) HALK (11.5%) and MAKEDONIJA (10.7%).
