STATISTICS: POLAND: Almost EUR 4 billion in GWP after the first quarter
Polish insurers' aggregate GWP was up by 0.6% y-o-y to PLN 16.35 billion (~EUR 3.80 billion*) in the first quarter of 2019, financial indicators from the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) showed. Official figures also revealed that the amount of paid claims/indemnities during the period was PLN 10.2 billion (~EUR 2.37 billion*), representing a decrease of 2.7% y-o-y.

The non-life insurance segment accounted for PLN 11.1 billion (~EUR 2.59 billion*) of the total GWP (68% of total GWP), while the life-insurance companies contributed the remaining PLN 5.2 billion (~EUR 1.22 billion*), which was almost half a million euro less as compared with Q1 2018.

The local insurer PZU Zyce was the largest life insurer (39.57% market share), followed by AVIVA TUnZ (9.14% market share), and NN (7.10%).

PZU was the biggest non-life insurer in Poland with GWP of PLN 3,729 million (~EUR 867 million*), and a market share of 33.54%, followed by ERGO HESTIA at 14.51%, and WARTA, part of German insurer, TALANX at 13.34%.
