In Q1 2021, the Romanian insurance market totaled RON 3.19 billion (EUR 648.7 million), increasing by approximately 8.2% y-o-y, according to the quarterly report published by ASF - Financial Supervisory Authority, wrote 1asig.ro here.

The non-life insurance market generates about 78% of total GWP and remains dominated by motor insurance, MoD and MTPL representing about 71% of non-life GWP and 56% of total market.

The insurance market in Romania is characterized by a medium to high degree of concentration, thus in the first quarter of 2021, approximately 89% of the total volume of GWP being generated by 10 out of the 27 insurance companies.

The largest insurer in the market in terms of GWP is CITY Insurance, with a market share of 20.3%, followed by ALLIANZ-TIRIAC Asigurari (12.3%) and OMNIASIG VIG (11.7%).
