Not another day pass without the bad news of fire incidents. We are bound to read a number of big or small fire incidents. These fire hazards are causing significant losses both material and immaterial. The total number of fire incidents only in 2016 in Istanbul adds up to 28,586. According to the statistics of Istanbul Fire Department, among these incidents 5,910 were residential and 153 were manufacturing plants. Almost 40% of all the fire incidents in Istanbul last year were due to smoking. Electrical malfunction follows smoking with a whopping 21.5%. As one may see, it is possible to eliminate at least 40% of the fire hazards if we were to observe the non-smoking warnings in commercial and industrial facilities. Read the full story

STATISTICS: The Turkish market exceeded TRY 40 billion in GWP last year

Total GWP in the Turkish insurance market exceeded TRY 40 billion (about EUR 11 billion) last year, an increase of more than 30% compared to the previous year, according to preliminary data from the Insurance Association of Turkey - TSB. The TSB figures also show that Turkey's insurance sector grew by 20.2% in real terms last year when the annual inflation rate was 8.5%.

TURKEY: Marius POPESCU appointed as NN Hayat ve Emeklilik CEO as of 1 April 2017

NN Group announced that Marius POPESCU (currently CEO of NN Romania) will be appointed CEO of NN Hayat ve Emeklilik Turkey, effective 1 April. He succeeds Frank EIJSINK which was named CEO of NN Life Japan. NN Group pointed out that Marius POPESCU's successor will be announced in due course: "On an interim basis, Mihai MUNTEAN, Chief Sales Officer, will assume responsibility as CEO NN Life Insurance Romania".
