UKRAINE: MTIBU: MTPL GWP last year became a record - almost UAH 6.1 billion

According to the MTIBU (Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine), in 2020, insurers concluded over 8.3 million MTPL contracts, and total GWP amount became a record - almost UAH 6.1 billion (~EUR 0.17 billion*), the bureau's press release says.

The number of contracts increased by 4.1%, and GWP - by 20.6% y-o-y. The leading insurers in terms of the number of contracts concluded were ORANTA, TAS, UPSK.

In 2020, MTPL insurers settled 5.4% more claims than a year earlier. The Bureau noted that for the first time, the number of claims settled with the help of the European Accident Statement exceeded 50 thousand (+5.8%), their share in the total number of MTPL claims was 34.2%.

Payments to victims of road accidents amounted to UAH 2.3 billion (+12.8%), of which UAH 502.3 million were paid under the claims settled using the European Accident Statement. The leaders in terms of the number of settled claims are the same companies - TAS, ORANTA, UPSK.

"A third of the accidents registered with the help of the European Accident Statement is not enough: we can and must reach the level of 50-70%," said Vladimir SHEVCHENKO, General Director of MTIBU, commenting on the results. "In order to increase drivers' confidence in the effectiveness of the European Accident Statement, MTIBU plans to initiate an increase of the payment limit for such cases", he added.
