29 March 2021 —
In 4Q2020, MTPL insurers of Ukraine paid out over UAH 812 million (~EUR 23.37 million*) to victims of road accidents, MTIBU (Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine) reported in its press release.

The number of MTPL contracts concluded in the fourth quarter of 2020 reached 2.05 million units, which is 7.5% more y-o-y. GWP, generated under those contracts, amounted to UAH 1.57 billion (+12.9%).

The number of settled claims of victims of road accidents during the period under review exceeded 41.6 thousand (+10.1%). Paid claims amounted to UAH 812.2 million (+18.4%).

The composition of the TOP-3 ranking in terms of the number of contracts concluded has not changed: ORANTA, TAS and UPSK. In terms of GWP received, the first place is taken by TAS (UAH 184.5 million). In terms of the number of settled claims, TAS is in the lead, followed by ORANTA and UPSK.

In 4Q2020, MTIBU received 363 complaints from victims and policyholders about actions of insurance companies, which slightly exceeds the same indicator in 3Q2020 and in the same period in 2019. However, despite the increase in the number of claims paid, the ratio of the number of complaints to the number of paid claims is record low - 0.87%. The highest level of complaints was recorded by the company U.S.I. (7.5%). At the same time, no complaints were received about the activities of 8 insurers.

General Director of MTIBU Vladimir SHEVCHENKO, commenting on the results of the last quarter of 2020, noted: "Now we can say with confidence that our MTPL market is working steadily in the context of the crisis caused by the pandemic. People, involved in a traffic accident, can be confident in the reliability of insurance coverage. It is very pleasant to note that in the last quarter of last year we had a record low level of complaints against insurers. For several companies, the indicator is either zero or minimal, less than one percent - this means that insurers are constantly investing efforts in the development and support of high-quality service", he stressed.
