UKRAINE: paid claims of the life insurance leader MetLife grew by 47% in 2021

In 2021, MetLife, the leader of the life insurance market in Ukraine, paid out UAH 311 million (EUR 10 million*) to its customers, which is almost one and a half times more y-o-y. It is noted that over the 19 years of its work, the insurer has paid out a total of UAH 1.17 billion to customers, Forinsurer wrote.

31% of MetLife's paid claims in 2021 were survival insurance payments (UAH 98.9 million). Paid claims under other insured events amounted to UAH 212.1 million or 68%. The company noted that the increase in its paid claims is directly related to the increase in the number of insured events. The number of insured events of MetLife customers reached 34,648 in 2021, which is 64% more than in 2020.

"Our statistics show that life insurance is gradually becoming an important financial security tool for Ukrainian citizens," says Inna BELYANSKAYA, Chairman of the Board of MetLife in Ukraine. "In 2021, for example, MetLife's injury payments doubled. Paid claims for hospitalizations and surgical interventions increased by 75%, under insurance programs for critical illnesses - by 62%. In addition, with a policy from MetLife, Ukrainians successfully implement their plans for capital accumulation. Payments to our clients related to successful completion of their accumulative insurance programs increased by a third last year! This is an excellent result and a reason to be proud of our work", she emphasized.

MetLife has been operating in Ukraine since 2002. Over the past six years, MetLife has been the leader of the Ukrainian life insurance market in terms of GWP and paid claims, the number of insured, assets and reserves. According to the results of three quarters of 2021, the company's share in the life insurance market exceeded 35%. MetLife also accounts for 38% of all life insurance paid claims in Ukraine.
