Vehicles registered in MOLDOVA to be insured while entering Transnistria

31 March 2015 —
Moldovan drivers will be required to buy insurance for their cars at the entrance to Transnistria. Each day, some 2,000 cars cross the security zone, separatist authorities will increase the number of inspectors. Thus, Tiraspol is trying to accumulate money in the budget of the region, to overcome the financial crisis. Chisinau say that it is a unilateral measure that will hinder dialogue between the two sides, TV "Moldova 1" reported.

Since March 1, 2015, the insurance became mandatory for owners of cars with Romanian license plates and as of April 1 - for cars registered in Moldova. The changes do not stop there. Since June 1, Ukrainians drivers will also be obliged to buy the insurance, and starting next year the regulation will extend to citizens of other countries. Transnistrian authorities have also established the working mechanism of this system.

"This will enable protection of Transnistrian motorists in case of accidents or other force majeure circumstances involving the foreign transport units," says Yuri Cerbaziuk, President of the Customs Committee.

In Transnistria, there is no law on compulsory insurance of civil liability of owners of vehicles. The price for the so-called "Green Card" will be USD 30 for one year. For 15 days, the insurance will cost USD 5.00. Read the full story Vehicles registered in MOLDOVA to be insured while entering Transnistria
