According to the data, 1,665 of the fraud notifications were made by insurance companies, representing a 15.7% decrease compared to 1H2025. The number of reports from other sources was 547, a decline of 0.4% y-o-y.
Branch wise, most insurance fraud reports were concentrated in motor insurance. In the first six months, 2,047 cases reported to SISEB were related to motor insurance. Motor insurance was followed by life insurance with 63 reports, fire insurance with 30 reports, and health insurance with seven reports.
Among the fraud methods reported by insurance companies, the most striking increase was seen in "hit-and-run" claims. These accounted for 7.2% of the total number of reports in the first half of 2025, and rose to 28.4% in the first six months of 2026, becoming the most common type of fraud reported.
Despite the decrease in the number of insurance fraud reports, organized fraud attempts continue to pose a significant risk to the insurance sector, the source added.
